Causes Of Cancer

Cancer is a disease in which the cells grow uncontrollably and spread into surrounding tissues. One of the major factors behind cancer is DNA changes that occur in the section of genes. However, several major causes increase the risk of falling into cancer. It is a chronic disease which means it can be very long-lasting and can even last for the rest of the life of the patient. Without proper treatment, cancer can even lead to death. We’ll explain some of the most common causes of cancer, in this blog.

Alcohol

Consuming alcohol regularly is one of the biggest causes of cancer. Alcohol increases the risk of cancer because when you consume it ,your body breaks it down to a chemical called acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde doesn’t just damage the DNA cells, it also prevents your body from repairing the damage. The most common type of cancer caused by alcohol is liver cancer.

Smoking

Another big cause of cancer is smoking. Chemicals found in cigarettes weaken your immune system. This weak immune system can not fight cancer cells and they kept on growing. Tobacco can also change or damage the cells of DNA. These damaged DNA cells are also a major factor behind cancer.

Exposure to Chemicals

Some chemicals like benzene, beryllium, arsenic, etc, are known to be responsible for cancer cases. It depends upon how long, how much, and how often you are exposed to such chemicals. Overexposure to these chemicals can induce cancer by damaging the genome and disrupting cellular metabolic processes.

Radiation

There is a large list of radiations that can cause cancer. Some of these radiations include X-rays, alpha particles, neutrons, etc. All these radiations can damage the DNA cells and can cause cancer. These radiations can be released by nuclear power plants when nuclear weapons are being made, tasted, etc.

Chronic Inflammation

Long-lasting Inflammation can cause cancer because it damages the DNA cells.People who are suffering from chronic inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease have a higher risk of cancer.

Diet

Diets that are full of fat and contain very low amounts of fiber can cause cancer. Too much fat in the body can raise levels of insulin and other growth factors. It makes cells divide more often. This also increases the chance of the growth of cancer cells. Moreover, diets high in fiber reduce the risk of cancer.

Infection

Some infectious agents like viruses, bacteria, and parasites can cause cancer as well. Infections can make your immune system very weak. A weak immune system can not fight against cancer cells. Some viruses, bacteria, and parasites can also cause inflammation which can lead to cancer.

UV Rays

Long-term exposure to Ultra Violet, or simply, UV rays can cause cancer. These rays damage the DNA found on the surface of the skin. These damaged DNA cells can lead to cancer. Another cause of these radiations is the depletion of the ozone layer. The ozone layer protects us from UV rays coming from the sun, but, it is decreasing rapidly due to pollution, we are spreading into the atmosphere.
