About Dr Manu Mathur

Dr Manu Mathur is a Sydney Cardiothoracic Surgeon specialising in heart valve, aortic aneurysm & reoperative surgery.
Dr Mathur completed his internship, residency and general surgical training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. He gained his fellowship and qualification in general surgery in 1997 (FRACS General Surgery). He was then selected for cardiothoracic training which was completed at Royal Hobart, Royal North Shore and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals and gained his fellowship and qualification in 2000 (FRACS Cardiothoracic Surgery).

Dr Mathur spent the next two and a half years in cardiothoracic fellowship posts overseas for further specialisation.  The first was at the Oxford University Hospital (John Radcliffe) UK, specialising in aortic aneurysm surgery.  The second was at Harvard Medical School (Brigham and Women’s Hospital) Boston, USA, specialising in heart valve and reoperative cardiac surgery.  The last was at Mt Sinai Medical Centre, New York City, USA, specialising in aortic aneurysm surgery.


Dr Mathur commenced his consultant cardiothoracic surgery practice in 2003 at Royal North Shore and North Shore Private Hospitals.  In 2018 he was also appointed to The Northern Beaches Hospital.  He is involved in medical student, resident and registrar training and is currently supervisor of cardiothoracic training at Royal North Shore Hospital.  He has multiple publications in peer reviewed journals, is involved in clinical research, and presents regularly at meetings.


Dr Mathur lives on the lower north shore of Sydney with his wife and three children. He enjoys tennis, swimming and surfing.
