What is Insulin

Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas to remove and carry away glucose from our blood. When we consume food, sugars from it mix up in our blood. The insulin we are talking about works as a carrier of sugar. Insulin carries the sugar from our blood to the muscle cells.

Cells play a vital role in our body. The cells of our muscles, body fat, and liver start ignoring or resisting sugars coming from the blood by insulin. Cells can use this sugar as a source of energy.

How Resistance develops

Increasing the consumption of sugar or carbohydrates in the diet also increases the levels of sugar in our blood. A large amount of sugar in our blood forces the pancreas to develop more insulin. The insulin then continues to add sugar to the cell but these cells also resist the addition of sugars as well. With time the cells become so resistive that they completely ignore all the sugars coming from the hormone insulin. This resistance of cells to accept sugar from insulin is known as insulin resistance.


While it is still unclear what is the major cause of this. However, experts suggest that a diet with high carbohydrates and saturated fats are linked with it. Obesity is also one of the reasons for insulin resistance.


Some most notable symptoms of it are feeling thirst or hunger even after a meal. Being very vulnerable to infections is also a sign of insulin resistance. Feeling more tired than usual or frequent urination are also signals of insulin resistance.


It is a condition that is responsible for several diseases which include, including obesity, and cardiovascular disease but the most dangerous among them is diabetes. Several people have to face heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, kidney failure, and even death due to diabetes. There are three levels of diabetes, type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Type two sugar is a serious issue and can last for the rest of your life. However, you can prevent or control it by regular exercise, keeping weight under control, and eating healthy foods.

If you are suffering from this then don’t worry as it is possible to recover from it. Insulin resistance is a major cause of type 2 diabetes. We have to take a lot of medicines but keep in mind to consult with a good doctor as experts believe that you can reverse it. You should exercise regularly, lose excess weight and eat a healthy diet to help your bost control insulin resistance.
